The aim of this project was to "creatively represent what well-being looks like" to me. We were given the liberty to chose our method of presentation as well as the subject matter. Included in my submission was a 304 word project description and final reflection of the course.
[ Final Project for NURS 180 | Grade: 100% ]
To design the page, I used the WIX website builder and a photography website template as the foundation.
Since this project was assigned and due the night before my first final exam, the use of the template was to save on the time spent on deliberation of the layout.

Creatively represent what wellbeing looks like for you. There should be evidence of thought and effort toward how you chose to creatively represent your engagement with self-care this semester. Your project should be original.

You narrative should contain a brief introduction as to why you chose this topic for your self-care project and why you chose your given medium of presentation. There should be an overview of the major themes you have chosen to focus on in your self-care project while identifying the self-care domains (Butler et al. 2019) that you self-care project addresses. Include a brief conclusion to highlight insights and benefits you have learned this term from this self-care project and your intentions to continue to address your self-care.

Critical evaluation (questioning, examining more closely) and thoughtful discussion and reflection regarding your personal key takeaways from the course. Answer one of the given prompts in the assignment.
Include a conclusion with summarizes and wraps up what you have been discussing in your paper.
The home page displays my name in large font, with additional context for the website's purpose (class and assignment name) to make it easy for the marker to read. A small oscillating arrow on the left guides the user to scroll down where they are met with a brief introduction and instructions on where to start reading.
The 'About' page begins with a description directly addressing the Narrative criteria: reason for the topic & medium and the major themes & self care domains covered in the project.
Underneath are 4 paragraphs addressing the different themes. Each paragraph describes the significance of each theme and how photography ties into them. Each theme has its own respective album/collection of photos in the next page.
This page displays the different themed albums mentioned in the previous page. Each one follows a short description of its contents as well as the self-care domains covered. They all contain a series of photos with related captions.
With the help of online sources and my C Programming knowledge from APSC 160, I used the WIX Developer Mode to program navigation arrows on the right hand side of the website.
The website uses an integer variable to store your page number and increments your page number each time an arrow is pressed. Each position on the page has an anchor ID that corresponds to the page number. So each time an arrow is pressed, it updates your page number and travels to the new position.
// Define the order of your anchors
const anchorIds = ["top", "memories", "intention", "overlooked", "friends"];
// Initialize the current anchor index
let currentAnchorIndex = 0;
$w.onReady(function () {
// Initial state setup for buttons
// NEXT Button Logic
$w("#nextButton").onClick(() => {
if (currentAnchorIndex < anchorIds.length - 1) {
currentAnchorIndex++;
scrollToCurrentAnchor();
}
});
// PREVIOUS Button Logic
$w("#previousButton").onClick(() => {
if (currentAnchorIndex >= 1) {
currentAnchorIndex--;
scrollToCurrentAnchor();
}
});
});
// Helper function to scroll to the anchor at the current index
function scrollToCurrentAnchor() {
const targetAnchorId = anchorIds[currentAnchorIndex];a
$w(`#${targetAnchorId}`).scrollTo();
}
In order to make website navigation easier, I included links between the respective texts in the about page to the related albums in the collections page.

From the NURS180 Showcase - Winter 2023, I took inspiration from Kevin Wu's project to format the navigation bar at the top and to add descriptions of each photo separated as different albums.
NURS180 helped me re-evaluate what wellbeing means and how I can use it in my daily life. At the beginning of the term, I assumed self care was mostly about taking breaks or recovering when I felt overwhelmed. However, I later learned that wellbeing involves intentionally choosing activities that support different parts of who I am.
I chose photography for my self care project because it was the activity that kept me most grounded this semester. Before I left for university, I received an old camera from a family friend. Even though my phone takes better photos, the camera came to represent my artistic freedom and the memories created with my friends. Building an online website felt like the best medium because it let me customize how my photos were presented and allowed me to share them with the people who were involved in the process.
My project focuses on three major themes:
The first is artistic expression. Photography lets me capture the world from my perspective, and each shot starts with a vision of the scene, lighting, and interpretation that is strengthened with editing This connects to the spiritual self care domain from Butler et al. (2019) because it helps me express meaning and personal values.
The second theme is mindful observation. Since taking photos more often, I have found myself slowing down and noticing small details that I would have ignored before. This has made me more grateful and optimistic and aligns with the psychological self care domain.
The final theme is social connection. Many of my photos involve friends and shared memories. Sharing the process strengthens my relationships and connects to the relational domain. Overall, this project showed me that my wellbeing grows through creativity, awareness, and connection. I plan to continue using photography to support my self care moving forward.
